Small Business Lessons Learned in 2024

As we reflect on 2024, it’s clear this year has been one of growth—not just as business owners but as individuals and as a team. Running a small business is never without challenges, but it’s also a constant opportunity to learn. This year, we gained insights that we hope will help us continue to make F’n K Tacos even better for our community and ourselves. And keep the big man himself coming back!

First and foremost, we learned the importance of stepping back to work on the business rather than always being caught up in it. Too often, we’ve found ourselves reactive instead of strategic, especially Frank, who is constantly in the kitchen and focused on keeping the day-to-day running. This realization hit home during a much-needed break in Las Vegas, where we reconnected as a couple and took a moment to explore the taco scene out west. Even though we talked shop the entire time, it was a reminder that stepping away can help us return with fresh ideas and energy.

Another big lesson: we can only do so much. We strive to make every customer experience excellent, from the quality of our food to the friendly service our team provides. But not every day is perfect. This year taught us that while we’ll always do our best to make things right when they go wrong, we can’t control everything. All we ask is that if something doesn’t meet your expectations, give us the chance to fix it—we’ll always try.

When things got tough, we learned to lean on creativity and resilience. A funding source we were counting on fell through late this year, leaving us uncertain about how we’d navigate the slower winter months. It was a blow, but instead of giving up, we brainstormed, problem-solved, and made a plan to persevere. That's the same spirit that's carried us since we first opened, like how we transformed our small space into something bigger: a cozy, enclosed back patio that we built with a lot of elbow grease, help from some local professionals and a handy dad, and plenty of grit.

Finally, we’ve been inspired by the way our community has embraced new ideas, from breakfast burritos (hello, Saturday morning regulars!) to catering and private parties on the back patio. These offerings have evolved organically, and we’re excited to explore them further in 2025. Looking ahead, we have big plans to keep improving and finding better ways to serve you.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to learning, growing, and, most importantly, eating tacos together in 2025! 🌮 Oh, one last thing. We learned to OWN IT -- our tacos are the best around. Period.
